Bloemenveld, Holland
'Bloemenveld Ten, Waves'
Bloemenveld, Dutch for “flower field”, is an award-winning abstract color photography series that reimagines the iconic tulip fields of Holland as vibrant, painterly landscapes of motion, light, and hue. Departing from traditional representation, the series embraces the ephemeral and emotional qualities of the floral expanse, transforming linear rows of tulips into dreamlike fields of color and texture. For Bloemenveld, I was inspired by the rich color palette and geometric perfection found in the work of the painter James Little. Using the bright colors of Holland’s tulip fields as a saturated palette, I translated that influence into a photographic language where intentional camera movement, selective focus, and experimental framing dissolve the familiar. Each image becomes less about the flower itself and more about the sensation it evokes—waves of color that blur the line between photography and abstraction.
Set against the flat horizons of the Dutch lowlands, these compositions explore the intersection of nature and perception, inviting viewers into a visual meditation on transience, memory, and the shifting boundaries of landscape. What emerges is not a literal portrait of Holland in spring, but an expressive response to it—where the tulips become brushstrokes and the fields, a canvas of fleeting impressions.

'Bloemenveld Four, Roze en Groen'
This image presents the tulip field as a sequence of diagonal bands in varying shades of pink and green, evoking both movement and balance within a softened palette. The interplay of warm and cool tones creates a gentle tension—like opposing forces in quiet harmony—while the slanted composition introduces a sense of momentum, as though the landscape itself is tilting forward into bloom.
'Bloemenveld Seven, Rain'
This image captures the cascading strokes of vivid pink and green like a spring rain shower over the Dutch landscape. The blurred motion and painterly textures evoke the sensation of color falling through the air, as if the tulip fields themselves have dissolved into a gentle storm of petals and leaves.
